Offer a nicely formatted print version of your recipes that can easily be printed by just a click on the “Print” button.

Printing from Facebook’s in-app browser

Printing may not work when a visitor opens your recipe inside the Facebook app. WP Recipe Maker shows a notice on the print page when it detects Facebook’s in-app browser. The Print button remains available because printing can still work on some devices or app versions.

If tapping Print does not open the print dialog:

1. Use Facebook’s browser menu to open the print page in Safari or Chrome.
2. Alternatively, tap Copy page link in the notice, then paste the link into Safari or Chrome. If automatic copying fails, select and copy the link shown below the button.
3. Tap Print again in Safari or Chrome.

Controlling who can print

On WP Recipe Maker > Settings > Print Version, the Printing setting defaults to Enabled for everyone. You can limit printing to logged-in users or administrators, or disable it. Disabling printing also disables the PDF Download feature.

On WP Recipe Maker > Settings > Permissions > Frontend Access, there are two additional controls, both disabled by default:

• Prevent printing of non-published recipes: when enabled, visitors who are not administrators cannot print a recipe unless the recipe itself is published. They are redirected to the homepage when access is denied. When disabled, visitors with print access can use direct print links for draft, pending and scheduled recipes, even when the parent post is unpublished, provided the other access checks allow it.
• Prevent printing of restricted recipes: checks that the recipe is visible in the parent post’s content for the current visitor. This can be used with membership plugins and can block printing when the visitor cannot see the recipe there.

Turning off the unpublished-recipe restriction does not make private, password-protected or membership-restricted content publicly printable. Access to the recipe and its parent is still checked. An invalid assigned parent can block a direct print link. A recipe with no assigned parent can still print when the other access checks allow it.

Administrators are exempt from the two additional print restrictions, but must still have access under the Printing setting. To check what readers can print, test as a logged-out visitor or with the relevant reader account.

Printing a recipe displayed in a public post

A recipe’s saved status or parent can be out of sync even though its card appears in a published post. Individual print links can carry the context of the public post displaying the recipe. The print page checks that the visitor can access that post and that it contains the recipe, while still enforcing print permissions and the recipe’s own restrictions.

This can allow printing from the public post without changing the recipe’s saved status or assigned parent. It does not override Prevent printing of non-published recipes. If a recipe redirects to the homepage unexpectedly, start with the Print button on the post where the card appears, then check the settings above and follow the parent-post troubleshooting guide.

Changing the print template

Just like the regular recipe template, the print template can be changed in the Template Editor. Choose the template you want to use for the print version on the WP Recipe Maker > Settings > Print Version page:

Visitors can toggle images on or off before printing. On WP Recipe Maker > Settings > Print Version page you can set what the default should be:

Adding credit to the print page

On the WP Recipe Maker > Settings > Print Version page you can optionally set some text to display at the bottom of every printed recipe, to add credit for your website:

Showing an ad on the print page

The footer of the print page can be used to show ads (or any other content, really). On the WP Recipe Maker > Settings > Print Version page you can add the HTML you want to show there:
