The text in the plugin follows WordPress standards for making them translation-ready. We recommend using the Loco Translate plugin to translate any text in the plugin.
Take note that there are 2 domains a particular string of text could be part of:
- wp-recipe-maker
- wp-recipe-maker-premium
Loco Translate can be used to translated both of these.
Alternative for text in the recipe box
Text inside of the recipe box (like the headers for “Ingredients” and “Instructions”) can also be changed in the Template Editor. Read the documentation on changing template labels.
Will Loco Translate slow things down?
You already have lots of plugins on your site, so you might be hesitant to add yet another one. I can highly recommend Loco Translate compared to fiddling with the translation files directly, however. Its impact on your site will be negligible, as pretty much all of the work is happening in the backend. Loco Translate only has a tiny footprint on the public side of things and will not affect performance there.
Translating with Loco Translate
When using Loco Tranlate you’ll find both “WP Recipe Maker” and “WP Recipe Maker Premium” on the Loco Translate > Plugins page. After clicking through you’ll be able to add a new language for the plugin:
On this screen you’ll also want to click through to “Edit Template” and then use the “Sync” button on the following screen.
This makes sure you’re using the latest version of the translatable text in the plugin. If you can’t find a specific part of the plugin to translate, syncing usually solves that.
Finally, make sure to store your translations in the “Custom” location. Otherwise a plugin update can overwrite the translations you made. If you did not choose “Custom” when starting out you can relocate your translation files:
Translating in Loco Translate doesn’t work
Make sure you’ve used the “Sync” button as shown above.
If it still doesn’t work, it’s possible this particular text can be changed on the WP Recipe Maker > Settings page instead (for example the text related to User Ratings).
The labels for nutrients can also be set on the WP Recipe Maker > Manage > Your Custom Fields > Custom Nutrients page, if translating doesn’t work.
Multiple Languages on the same site
If you want to have recipes in multiple languages on the same site you will need to make use of a multilingual plugin like WPML or Polylang.
