Instruction Image Links and Tooltips

Premium feature: Instruction image links require WP Recipe Maker Premium 10.7.0 or newer. Instruction image tooltips require WP Recipe Maker Premium 10.8.0 or newer.

You can give each instruction image its own link, tooltip, or both. The controls are available while editing a recipe.

An instruction image must be attached to the instruction step before the link and information icons appear. Click the photo icon for the step and select or upload an image first.

Adding or removing an instruction image link

To add a link:

1. Attach an image to the instruction step.
2. Click the link icon beside the image controls.
3. Enter the URL that should open when a visitor clicks the image, then confirm the prompt.
4. Save the recipe.

Once a link is set, the link icon changes to an unlink icon. Click the unlink icon to remove the URL, then save the recipe. To change an existing URL, remove it and add the new URL.

You can control how these custom links behave under WP Recipe Maker > Settings > Links > Instruction Image Links:

• Open in New Tab opens custom instruction image links in a new browser tab.
• Use Nofollow for External Links adds rel="nofollow" to custom links that point to another website.

Adding, editing, or removing tooltip text

To add tooltip text:

1. Attach an image to the instruction step.
2. Click the information icon beside the image controls.
3. Enter the tooltip text and confirm the prompt.
4. Save the recipe.

Click the information icon again to edit the existing text. To remove the tooltip, open the same prompt, delete all of its text so the field is empty, confirm, and save the recipe.

Tooltip text is plain text. It appears on the recipe when a visitor hovers over the instruction image or moves keyboard focus to it.

Linked and unlinked images

Tooltips work whether or not the instruction image has a link:

• For a linked image, the image link remains the keyboard-focusable tooltip trigger. Clicking the image still follows the link.
• For an unlinked image, WP Recipe Maker makes the image area keyboard focusable so keyboard visitors can reveal the tooltip. This does not turn the image into a link or give it a click action.

Tooltip text is not output on recipe print pages. The instruction image can still appear there according to your print settings, but its tooltip will not be included.
